GRIZEDALE SULPTURE RESIDENCY
Known as the First Forest for Sculpture in the UK and made up of 3,000 hectares of managed woodland in the Lake District National Park, Grizedale is a unique place for visitors of all ages to enjoy art in the landscape year round. There are currently 40 sculptures in the collection..
This new opportunity is an intensive 6-week long residency that fosters experimentation and innovation in response to the natural environment. A Royal Society of Sculptors member will be paired with an early-career sculptor (2nd/ 3rd year student or post graduate from universities based in the North West) to explore how creative ideas can evolve and how new ideas and innovative thinking can cross generations of artistic practice.
The residency will run from 2 August – 13 September 2019 inclusively.
Two sculptors who work in any medium will work side by side, enabling them to explore, test + develop new ideas + processes. The aim will be to encourage a shared verbal + visual dialogue between the two artists.
The residency includes a studio and accommodation. The opportunity also includes an exhibition of work produced during the residency at the Forest Artworks Project Space. The exhibition will run September – December 2019 and will be supported by a programme of talks and events.
Each artist will receive a £1,000 stipend plus £1,000 towards materials.
