We are looking for artists/facilitators residing in the North West who wish to help us develop our outreach and artist development programme in the region.
Outside In is an arts charity that celebrates the diversity of talent from artists outside of the mainstream leading to the creation of a fairer art world which challenges traditional values and institutional judgements about whose work can and should be displayed. We are a leading UK arts charity enabling artists who face barriers to their inclusion in the art world, due to health, disability, isolation or social circumstance, to be valued and represented through our ground-breaking programmes of artist development, exhibitions and training.
Founded in 2006 at Pallant House Gallery in West Sussex, Outside became and independent charity in 2017 and joined Arts Council England’s National Portfolio in 2018. In 2022, Outside In’s Ambassadors were awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services.
About the North West Hub
Outside In’s North West Hub for Artist Development was established in partnership with Venture Arts and The Whitworth in 2022. In the first year, over 75 new artists signed up and created galleries on Outside In’s website, and bespoke residencies were delivered for 10 learning disabled artists, which culminated in the ‘This Way, That Way’ Exhibition at Next Door Gallery.
The North West Hub exists to support artists regionally through its artist development programme whilst offering them access to a national profile through residencies, bursaries and exhibitions. Artists are supported through networking events, exhibition opportunities, Artist Support Days and Share Art events. An Exploring Collections course was delivered in 2023, where artists were able to work directly with the Musgrave Kinley Outsider Art Collection at The Whitworth, undertake research on a chosen artist and create artwork in response to the collection.

Artist Support Days provide artists with the skills to create an online gallery of their artwork including an artist statement.
Share Art enables artists to present and share their work to an audience of peers through a presentation of digital images of their work. Share Art provides an important means for artists to show their work and received feedback and validation. Share Art events include presentations by a selection of Outside In artists with a tea break in the middle and networking afterwards. Virtual Share Art events started in 2020 due to COVID-19 and, due to demand, remain programmed alongside in person events this year as well.
Outside In Ambassadors won the Queens Award for Voluntary Services in 2022.
