As well as supporting artists at different stages of their careers, FACT recognises the importance of curatorial practice to maintain a vibrant cultural scene.
Curators impact how an artwork is made, shown, and talked about. They have the ability to make unique connections between ideas, people and projects which are specific to their interests or research. As such, they are a vital part of any art ecology, and FACT is eager to support the next generation of curators to develop their practice in sustainable ways and build on the expertise within the organisation.
This is an opportunity for an early-career curator or arts producer to work on the development of FACT’s new Studio/Lab programme and space. Working alongside the Studio/Lab Manager, they will help to support and develop a community of artists, and input into the design and delivery of a skills and practice development programme.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Over recent years, FACT’s programme has strived to become more integrated and coherent across its Exhibitions, Learning and Residencies. Our focus as an organisation has shifted to be artist-centred by foregrounding ways of working that support artists’ practices more holistically: skills and talent development, production, presentation, participation and public engagement. With this in mind, we are currently establishing Studio/Lab, a new production and workspace that will become a hub for a creative community of artists, curators, researchers and participants at FACT.
Within this role there will be the opportunity to work alongside both early career and established artists, curators, and researchers, as well as oversee the production and delivery of talks, workshops, performances, and networking and social events. Communication will form a central part of the role, both in holding the community of artists we establish through our residencies and membership strands, and thinking about the ways we make artistic practice visible to other artists and a wider audience.
This is the perfect chance to spend time understanding how an artist-centred organisation works, and to have a significant input into the launch of a new project. The areas of work within this role will allow you the successful candidate to gain skills in a wide range of areas –as well as access to both a national and international network– further supporting their curatorial practice and development.
ELIGIBILITY
We are open to receiving applications from those who wouldn’t naturally consider themselves a curator, but have experience in any of the following: supporting creative practice; designing activities for groups of people; the production of artistic outcomes; or other transferable practical creative skills which are in-keeping with the below deliverables.
