Applications are now open for next year’s European Media Art Platform (EMAP) / European Media Artists in Residence Exchange programme (EMARE), aiming to enable European artists to collaborate on projects and create closer bonds between European media organisations. Media Artists in the fields of digital media, including Internet and computer-based artists, filmmakers, and those working in media based performance, sound, or video are encouraged to apply.
Applicants for these two-month residencies are required to have European residence, or a European passport, and artists of all ages are encouraged to apply (however students are not permitted).
Applications will be accepted until 20 January 2018, 12.00 Central European Time. The EMARE placement includes a grant of 3,000 Euros, project budget of 4,000 Euros, free accommodation, travel expenses up to 500 Euros, free access to the technical facilities and media labs within or associated with the host institution, consultations with production and market experts and an opportunity to deliver a public facing professional presentation as well as the option to participate in exhibition tours at our members festivals in 2018 – 2021 (but with no presentation fees).
All selected artists will be invited for a networking kick-off conference 23 – 25 March 2018 in Helsinki.

About the residency at FACT:
FACT would particularly welcome residency applications from artists whose research and practice is concerned with issues of labour, and how technological advancements are changing our relationship to work. This will tie into The Future World of Work, a city-wide programme reimagining what employment will look like in the near future. This is Liverpool’s flagship public art and social research programme for 2018, exploring challenging near-future work scenarios and the implications of technology and innovation on working life.
From sole traders to multinational corporations, working life has been irreversibly changed by technology and globalization, be it offshore call centres, flexible labour contracts, or automated production lines. With this in mind, and based on your own practice, we invite you develop a proposal for The Future World of Work, which challenges thinking in a provocative and accessible way. Future World of Work revolves around five key themes (the gig economy, skilling up, working time, de-globalisation and automation and AI), and includes a new large scale participatory commission, residencies, research and innovation initiatives, and a whole series of public facing events.
As part of the residency at FACT, the chosen applicant will be placed within a workplace in the city region in order to develop an artwork which reacts to that setting. These workplace residencies evaluate the social and economic considerations of work in the contemporary flexible workforce, be they beauticians, factory workers, or uber drivers. The Future World of Work will be part of Liverpool 2018, a year-long programme of cultural projects to mark the tenth anniversary of Liverpool being European Capital of Culture.
The outcomes of the programme will be included in the exhibition taking place at FACT in 2019.
