Course Assistant for Step Up, Leading Workshops: 2024 North West Course, Outside In

Outside In is delighted to be delivering a Step Up: Leading Workshops course at Blackpool Central Library in partnership with Grundy Art Gallery. The course will take place over 10 weeks from January to March 2024.

Outside In is looking for a Step Up alumni Course Assistant to support the Course Tutor during these scheduled sessions. The Course Assistant will take direction from the Tutor throughout, supporting and encouraging participation from artists taking part in the course.

The course aims to support artists to develop skills relating to designing and delivering creative workshops. The course provides a structured programme of sessions that cover all aspects of leading a workshop; from how to support a diverse range of participants, to what legislation you might need to be aware of. The course will be delivered by a Step Up Tutor, and Course Assistant who will provide artists with a practice-based programme, enabling participants to plan and try out the role of arts facilitator.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has completed a Step Up course before.
  • Has experience of working with people with diverse support needs.
  • Is able to work well in a group.
  • Has experience of and an interest in delivering creative workshops.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can commit to all advertised sessions and attend at the venue.

The successful applicant will need to be available for all the sessions listed above and be able to access Zoom each time.

The Course Assistant will:

  • Communicate with the Course Tutor between sessions where necessary to discuss lesson plans.
  • Share your own skills and knowledge gained from taking part in an Outside In Step Up course.
  • Provide access support for participants throughout the course, possibly including carrying and handing out materials or note taking for participants.
  • Facilitate and encourage discussion, supporting participants to take part and engage with the course and creating a safe space for people to share.
  • Provide any other additional support as required by the Course Tutor.
