Call for Young Artists, Knowledge Quarter & dot-art

CALLING ALL YOUNG ARTISTS AND CREATIVES AGED 11-16!

Enter the PV School Design Challenge and you could see your design feature on a new sculpture in Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter!

Knowledge Quarter Liverpool (KQ Liverpool) and dot-art have come together to launch a competition for secondary school pupils to bring to life a giant sculpture which will be sited at the heart of the new Paddington Village development in the city’s Knowledge Quarter. The sculpture will be in the shape of a giant PV logo.

Students in Year 7–11 at any school within the Liverpool City Region can enter, using the template provided, and designs must link to science and technology, which is at the heart of KQ Liverpool. A local artist will then transfer the winning design onto a permanent, public sculpture which will be showcased on Paddington Village.

The winning young artist will be credited on a plaque as the designer of the sculpture, as well as receiving a trophy and a bundle of art supplies as recognition of their achievement. The winning school will receive £500 to put towards art and creative supplies. Winners and runners up will be invited to a special celebration to unveil the sculpture.

Knowledge Quarter Liverpool (KQ Liverpool) is an innovation district located in Liverpool’s City Centre. An innovation district is a place where universities, hospitals and scientists come together to create, invent and discover. Our innovation district here in Liverpool is unique because, as well as being home to some of the world’s most important organisations in science, health, technology and education, it is also full of culture.

Paddington Village is a new science and technology campus located in KQ Liverpool. It began construction in 2016 and is now home to one of the world’s healthiest buildings – The Spine. Over the next few years, you will see more new buildings appear on the campus.

Rachael Patterson, Policy and Marketing Manager at KQ Liverpool said:

“We are really excited to invite local young people to be a vital part of the development of Paddington Village and cannot wait to see what inspiring designs will be submitted. The PV sculpture will be a permanent reminder of the creative energy of our city and is just the start of our engagement with our local communities.”

Lucy Byrne of dot-art added:

“The PV Design Challenge is a great example of partnership working to celebrate and stimulate the creative sector in Liverpool. We have been working with local schools for the last 10 years, inspiring and championing the next generation of creatives and this project is a fantastic addition. As a social enterprise supporting local visual artists, we are also delighted to be able to offer an artist the opportunity to bring the design to life.”
