Call for artists: “NUMBERS”

We all work with numbers, it cannot be helped, we are numerous beings! But what happens when artists consciously dive into the world of digits? What happens to the psyche when numbers become a prominent point of focus? What do we have to learn from numbers appearing in nature, the golden ratio and Fibonacci.

In this month’s edition of Wake up screaming we are thinking about numbers, latitudes, longitudes, angles, measurement, calendars, calculations, directions, proportion, ratio, probability, ancient buildings and universal  secrets encoded on grand scales.

We are looking at the maths that appears out of nature and the universe, for example the  interplay between the orbits of Venus and Earth, “The Dance of Venus”. Read more at wakeupscreaming.com.

There is enough subject matter here to study for a lifetime. We will attempt to break it down over one month by inviting many artists to offer their own perspectives on this vast topic. We are open to all forms of creativity that delves into the world of digits, we are looking specifically for artists working with the golden ratio, artists looking beneath the surface to find how creativity relates to numbers, can creativity be programmed? Can aesthetics be reduced to equation?

Within your submission you might like to focus on the following questions:

How does your artwork relate to the theme, numbers?

What is a number?

What’s the relationship between creativity and numbers?

What do numbers have to say to us?

How can numbers help us in exploring ourselves and our universe?

Deadline: 12 Noon GMT Sat 5th Nov

Release: New Moon Mon 7th Nov

The edition will be published online at www.wakeupscreaming.com in November.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We accept art in all its forms: visual pieces, writing, illustration, painting, drawing, animation, music, sound, photography, video, multimedia, films, installations, movement, dance, noise, soundscapes, songs, collaborations, creative writing, poetry and short articles 600 – 1200 words.

Or any combination of the above – we particularly like amalgamation and cross-pollination between mediums.

IMPORTANT: Please read the full submission guidelines and some previous editions, to understand the sort of submissions we are looking for.

We don’t accept submissions from PR people promoting artists, we want to hear from the artists themselves, please. We will unfortunately not be able to respond to submissions that do not adhere to the submission guidelines.
