Cheshire East Council is seeking to appoint a visual artist or designer to create the look and feel of a new public space.
Ly² is a project to redevelop Lyceum Square, Crewe. Crewe Town Board secured £750,000 from the Accelerated Towns Fund on behalf of Crewe Cultural Forum. This is one of the first visible developments in Crewe Town Centre as part of a £125m regeneration programme.
Ly² will be a permanent outdoor events space and creative hub incorporating a stage, large screen, container park and exhibition facilities. It will host a wide range of arts and events programming. The scheme will provide the infrastructure for creative activities of all scales to thrive.
The appointed artist will design the visual language for the space, which should be bright, vibrant, positive and bold. The artist will design elements for the key gateway sites to create a sense of arrival and define the atmosphere. The elements are:
– the exterior of the new stage structure
– facades of two gable ends of the covered container park
– ‘art carpet’ at a road junction
The total fee available is £25k to include all materials, but additional budget may be available for installation if required.
For a full brief and details on how to apply, please email creweculturalforum@cheshireeast.gov.uk and state ‘Ly2 brief’ in the subject line.
Deadline for submissions is midday on 15 October 2021. The designs must be finalised by the end of this calendar year with installation beginning in January 2022.
