Next Stop Byker Artist Callout: Version 7
Next Stop Byker; version 7 is looking for its seventh and final artist to bring to life the busy ticket concourse at Byker Metro station.
Since 2013 Nexus and Newcastle City Council, with Arts Council England funding have ran a programme of art commissions for the station. We are delighted to be able to be in the position to commission one final piece of work.
Each installation has been very different, and led by a different artist who has worked with local community groups to generate ideas and themes.
We would like this artist commission to be derived from work as part of a mini residency at Byker Metro Station itself and on the metro system, working with the ‘community’ who use the station and travel on the metro. How you engage with the public can be in any way you like but the final work must be a visual piece that will be installed on the feature wall on the ticket concourse.
The final design will be 2.5 meters high and 11m wide. We envisage the work will remain in the station for at least 6 months.
For artists interested in this commission please submit the following by midday 27th November to dropeverything@outlook.com:
Images of your work and/or a link to a webpage.
No more than 2 sides of A4 telling us about your work, your experience working with the public to create work (or how you would go about doing this) and initial ideas for this commission.
You must hold PLI and a DBS certificate.
The fee for this commission is £2,100 to include prep, creative delivery and materials.
The cost of printing and instillation is not expected to be from this fee.
We envisage that the ‘residency’ will be in February, with the final piece ready to be printed and installed by mid March.
Interviews 4th December, please make sure that you are available on this date.
