a-n Critical Writing Bursaries

Deadline: 12 noon on Wednesday 2 March 2016.

We have a bursary of £150 available to enable one writer to visit and write about the work of the current artist-in-residence at Berwick Visual Arts.

Since November 2016, Belgian sculptor and printmaker Sander Van Raemdonck has been living and working in Berwick upon Tweed, exploring and instigating creative propositions around rural housing issues and the notion of the ‘rural home’ as part of a joint residency with Berwick Visual Arts and Newcastle University’s Centre for Rural Economy (CRE).

During the residency Van Raemdonck has had access to the interdisciplinary social science centre’s staff, facilities and equipment as he develops new work that continues his ongoing questions around the impact that plan-based design and new developments have on the way we live and interact with the world around us.

The bursary is for one writer to visit and meet with Sander Van Raemdonck during his residency with Berwick Visual Arts and produce a piece of independent critical writing, which will be uploaded to and published on a-n’s critical writing platform by the writer and also distributed/presented during Sander Van Raemdonck’s exhibition at the end of his residency at Berwick Visual Arts.

Applications accepted from now and up to 12 noon Wednesday 2 March 2016.

Eligibility: Visual artists, arts organisers, writers and postgraduate students based in the UK with a current a-n membership.

Exclusions:
Students on an undergraduate course.

Value: £150.

How to apply: To apply, please email pippa.koszerek@a-n.co.uk by 12 noon on Wednesday 2 March with a short statement of no more than 200 words outlining your interest in writing about/reviewing Sander Van Raemdonck’s residency project.
