Support the maker movement and bring open-access welding to the people of Liverpool
The directors of Make Liverpool need your help to Make Liverpool Weld.
Make Liverpool sits firmly at the heart of the city’s creative and maker scene, where they’ve worked to support artists, makers and small businesses since 2012.
Straddling two sites in Liverpool city centre, they have creative studio space in the city’s digital hub, Baltic Triangle, alongside our maker space on Regent Street, at the heart of the growing cultural cluster of Liverpool’s North Docks, which will become home to the welding studio.

What they’d like to do next, with your help, is to build an open-access metal workshop in Make North Docks. Make want to grow the types of tools that people have access to – metalwork is a craft that makers and artists don’t have easy access to in our city. They want to develop somewhere that artists and makers can come and create; that small businesses can test and tweak their products and prototypes.
It’s good for the local economy; it’s good for our creative diversity; for independence and sustainability.
The equipment can be extremely expensive to buy as an individual, and is beyond most people’s reach. And, of course, creating a safe space for people to learn and experiment requires space, training and commitment. At Make, the goal is to build the ultimate tool resource ‘shed’ – where anyone (once they’ve had an induction!) can come to test different ways of making things. Their goal is to share knowledge, skills, creativity and to promote innovation.
By contributing to this campaign, you’ll be helping the makers in Liverpool connect with one another, grow their skills, and enter the economy with their start-up businesses. By creating a metal workshop at Make, they are equipping Liverpool’s makers with the tools they need to create – whether they’re sculptors, mechanics, artists, hobbyists, jewellers, or DIY home improvers. When the metal workshop is up and running, the goal is to hold classes that teach people jewellery-making skills, welding, and hammering. You’ll be contributing to tools to help people learn, try something new, practice old skills and create a workshop and community of skilled people, making and building.
