Sponsoring Fine Art Students

I’m not sure how or when this happened but if Art students want to put on a good degree show when they graduate and produce a catalogue as a lasting reminder then they have to raise the funds themselves.

Ever since artinliverpool started we’ve made a contribution to the JMU degree show, we fund a purchase prize for Hope University and contribute to Liverpool Community College Fine Art foundation degree show. Its not a huge amount, artinliverpool doesn’t actually make any money, but every little helps.

So we’re doing the same this year and went to see how JMU students are getting on with their fundraising at an event this evening at the Caledonia pub. Its a small pub but was packed, bands played for free (see photo) and raffle tickets were sold. But they still need a lot more money, with so many companies facing very difficult financial challenges they are unable or reluctant to give any sponsorship.

I suppose on one hand its good for art students to learn how to raise funds for their shows but I think its a shame that in the months leading up to finishing their studies and showing their final work they have to spend so much time and suffering such stress begging for raffle prizes and donations from businesses, families and friends.

If there’s anyone out there who would like to support the degree shows with financial or in-kind support then do get in touch. They’ll put your logo in the catalogue (we’ve got quite a collection in our archive now)!
