Surinder Sandhu and the Saurang soloists return to HOPES to perform music by Surinder Sandhu, orchestrated by Richard Gordon-Smith
This is at 19.00 at the Phil, on Sunday 22nd July. It introduces the “Hotfoot on Hope Street” – the festival of HOPES, which is the association which has done so much to keep the cultural life of the Hope street area flourishing.

Surinder Sandhu makes a return visit to Liverpool, with his electrifying band and the Hopes Festival Orchestra to play a special set from his much anticipated new album ‘The Fictionist’,
Surinder Sandhu has earned a strong reputation internationally by composing and performing some of the most acclaimed and striking contemporary Indian music! BBC have rightly described him as a ‘Tour de Force’, and he’s has gained the respect of the music world with some of the most prominent artists of all genres delighted to collaborate with him.
That’s just the first bit of a brilliant evening: The annual concert, which this year marks 30 years of the Hope Street Festival, will be presented by BBC Radio Merseyside presenter Roger Phillips, and features performances from artists ranging from Surinder Sandhu and his Indian-inspired Saurang soloists, to the Mersey Shanty musicians and HOPES Festival Orchestra players and singers.
Other artists appearing include Tayo Aluko, Kevin Bargen, Tony Burrage, Richard Gordon-Smith, Sarah Helsby-Hughes, Hughie Jones and children from Greenbank and Holy Cross Schools.
The evening will culminate in a mass performance of ‘Light up the City’, a song specially written for HOPES by conductor Richard Gordon-Smith.
