Pier Head Village Festival Showcases Local Art

Liverpool Art Fair will be offering affordable art from its residence on the city’s iconic waterfront (26th July – 9th September)

Building on the huge success of last year’s exhibition at Pier Head Village, Liverpool Art Fair will once again showcase a whole host of artwork from local artists.

Free to enter, the pop-up art gallery is open seven days a week from 12pm – 7pm and will feature sculptures, paintings and prints from artists across the region, starting at just £20.

With a whole floor of work under £200 and no piece more than £2,000, there’s something for all budgets. From seasoned collector to first time art buyer, the annual event is an opportunity for visitors to own their own piece of the city.

Every other Saturday, in partnership with Cass Art, the fair will also be challenging Merseyside to unlock their inner creative, as they hold free workshops for ages 18+ starting on Saturday 28th July. Since its inception in 2012, the art fair has grown from its home at the Camp and Furnace and The Gallery Liverpool, to its current residency at the Pier Head Village Festival and will run all summer-long for the second year running.

Situated in the shadow of the Port of Liverpool building and the Museum of Liverpool, last year’s art fair was a huge success, welcoming over 25,000 visitors to its edgy gallery, aptly constructed from five shipping containers and taking centre stage on Liverpool’s much loved dockland area.

Lucy Byrne, Founder of Liverpool Art Fair, said: “We’re delighted to bring Liverpool Art Fair to the Pier Head Village for the second year running. Our aim with the event has always been to bring affordable art to as wide an audience as possible, so with over a million visitors expected to the area over the summer, we hope to tempt many of them to buying their first piece of original art!

“We believe that our striking container gallery offers a great insight into the quality and breadth of art being produced in the region today.”

Village Creator, Martin O’Shea, said: “Liverpool Art Fair brought a great dynamic to last year’s festival celebrations, attracting a wide-spread number of people from across Merseyside and making art accessible to all.

“Our programme of activities aims to entertain people of all ages and tastes, so we cannot wait to welcome back the fair, which we feel it certainly caters for.”

This year’s exhibition will feature work from 99 artists based within a 35 mile radius of Liverpool who responded to an open call earlier in the year and were carefully selected by a panel of industry experts.

Liverpool Art Fair is also asking visitors to vote for their favourite artists throughout the event, in the Billy Wilson Peoples’ Choice Award.

The winner of the prize will win £250 worth of Cass Art vouchers; this individual along with four runners up will also be given the opportunity to showcase and sell their work at the Independent Biennial Hub for two weeks from September – October 2018.

The Pier Head Village Festival, now entering its third year, has become a celebration of Liverpool’s art, music and culture, as well as the chance to experience some of the world’s biggest thrill rides and will continue to exhilarate Merseyside well into September.

The Village is free to enter and will run from 14th July – 9th September. For more information go to www.pierheadvillageliverpool.com
