The Liverpool Culture Company Board has a new look – with new faces and a new role.
The advisory body of the city’s European Capital of Culture 2008 programme has been revamped following a review of its functions and its relationship with Liverpool City Council and regional agencies.
The restructure from 24 to 14 members aims to address the need for a strategic, delivery focused board to reflect the fact that 08 plans are now fully underway, with the city revealing the first highlights to critical acclaim earlier this month.
As well as the reduction, the board also welcomes two new members. They are: Roger Phillips, the award-winning BBC Radio Merseyside presenter, and Phil Redmond, creator of Brookside, Grange Hill and Hollyoaks.
The board will also have a new advisor. Neil Scales, Chief Executive and Director General of Merseytravel, will play a critical role as a transport advisor. Liverpool expects to attract up to 20 million people during 2008 – with one million alone for the Tall Ships Races, which occurs at the same time as The Open at nearby Royal Birkdale in July.
The new 2008 board will meet for the first time on Wednesday, 29 November. They are:
