Partnership promises culture crossover
National Museums Liverpool links up with Liverpool Hope University
National Museums Liverpool and Liverpool Hope University have joined forces to share expertise and develop links.
A formal partnership has been signed which will see both organisations working closer together on cultural programmes.
Hope has two postgraduate courses directly linked to the cultural sector: Art History & Curating and Museum & Heritage Studies. Museum curators and staff will work with lecturers to contribute and shape both courses.
To mark the partnership Hope students and staff will be welcomed to the Walker Art Gallery as part of Long Night (18 November) which sees art venues open late.
Dr David Fleming, director National Museums Liverpool, said: “National Museums Liverpool and Liverpool Hope have a lot in common in terms of our values. We share a commitment to social justice and democracy, and in so doing, both organisations represent a very great Liverpool tradition. We are delighted to be strengthening our links, and in particular we are looking forward to helping Hope develop world class museums and heritage courses.”
Professor Gerald Pillay, Liverpool Hope University’s Vice-Chancellor and Rector, said: “At a time of enormous challenges in both the university and public sectors, strong partners draw strength from each other and will help protect the cultural legacy of the city and wider region. This partnership will grow stronger as we develop mutually beneficial activities that will enhance our shared missions of cultural appreciation and high quality education.
“Like our partnership with The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, this partnership will present great opportunities for students choosing to study at Liverpool Hope University from across the country. It brings together expertise and specialist skills that will contribute making Liverpool one of the best places to study in the country.”
The partnership will see:
* Museum staff helping shape culture-focused post graduate courses
* High profile lecturer programme developed.
* Art exhibitions at Hope venues.
* Students getting access to National Museum Liverpool’s formal education programme.
* Hope will be involved in the annual Federation of International Human Rights Museums conference
* Potential for student placements at National Museums Liverpool.
