Metal are proud to be supporting Turner Prize nominees Assemble in the development of the Granby Workshop, a new social enterprise for Toxteth.
The first series of products are available for pre-order now from the Granby Workshop.
Design collective Assemble have been nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize for their work regenerating the Granby Four Streets alongside local residents.
The nomination has led them to set up the Granby Workshop, a Liverpool-based social enterprise that creates products for homes – from door handles to fireplaces to bathroom tiles – as well as providing sustainable local jobs based around the ethos of creativity and DIY activity.
Arts organisation Metal have supported the creation of the Granby Workshop in its initial phase, helping Assemble and the team of workshop managers to generate a wider network of support.
The first series of products are available for pre-order now. They are a new set of ‘original features’ for the once-derelict houses in the Granby Four Streets area. They are currently available for purchase through the Workshop’s website at www.granbyworkshop.co.uk
Any orders received before Christmas will be posted out with a beautiful print by the artist Mari Jacotey. Each print will show the product that has been ordered, making the order an ideal Christmas gift as well as a great way to support the business in its early stages.
Objects created in the workshop currently form the basis of Assemble’s Turner prize exhibition which opened at Tramway in Glasgow in October. The project was produced as part of a Metal residency, and Metal are continuing to support the workshop as it moves into its next phase.
The winner of the Turner prize will be announced live on Channel 4 on 7 December 2015.
