What Is The Case – Sculpture by David Gilbert. 27 October – 1 November 2008
Mersey Care NHS Trust headquarters at 8 Princes Parade, Princes Dock, will host a sculpture exhibition open to the public 10-16.00
The exhibition is called What Is The Case and has been a sculpture in process for seven years by North Wales’ artist David Gilbert. What Is The Case has 76 components, of which more than 50 will be displayed here.
They are almost exclusively made of balsawood, which is a soft and delicate wood meaning that individual pieces are housed in clear Perspex boxes. The small size of the pieces is also a reaction to the increase of scale of much sculpture since the 1960s.
David Gilbert, who has lived and worked near Aberdaron for the past 11 years, has been principally a sculptor in wood for 45 years but also produces drawings and woodcuts.
Director of corporate affairs Christine Hughes said: “Mersey Care is delighted to host this exhibition as part of its Capital of Culture celebrations. The Trust is also keen to highlight the contribution made to well-being by art and culture and to promote the creative use of space.”
The exhibition is free, no need to book, just drop-in during opening times. The venue is a short walk from the city centre, close to Moorfields and James Street rail stations and is on the city centre bus S2 and S3 circular.
• Directions: Mersey Care’s Boardroom is on the ground floor of 8 Princes Parade – this is the first office block next to the Isle of Man ferry terminal, close to the Pier Head and Crowne Plaza Hotel. There is no parking at the venue itself although disabled parking can be arranged by telephoning 0151 285 2708. The nearest parking is a pay and display car park off William Jessop Way or parking at the NCP in New Quay.
