Liverpool’s Halloween Lantern Carnival is Back!

email smallLiverpool’s Sefton Park will once again play host to ghouls, magic and mayhem as the Lantern Company returns with the superbHalloween Lantern Carnival.

Now a permanent fixture of Liverpool’s cultural calendar, the carnival will better than ever, when visitors will once again get to travel through the portal into the fascinating world of the bizarre and surreal.

Details of this year’s parade are as yet a closely guarded secret, with further information to be revealed very soon, but one guaranteed feature will be the Lantern Parade, when the community’s workshop-made lanterns will form a moving river of light in the annual Lantern Parade; a dazzling display of creativity and community spirit.

Jo Pocock, Artistic Director of the Lantern Company said: “It has been  a momentous 12 months for the Lantern Company, with our first commission overseas for the Hong Kong Youth Foundation, as well as returning to old haunts and creating brand-new events all around the UK.

DSCFl0136“But the Halloween Lantern Carnival will always be our favourite event. The city and its people are integral to what we do and has shaped our work in a unique way,  bringing heart and soul to the Lantern Carnival.

“With the continuous backing of Liverpool City Council, Arts Council England and many other supporters who believe in superb cultural events for all, we hope to keep providing Liverpool with great events for many years to come.”


Liverpool City Council’s cabinet member for culture and tourism, Councillor Wendy Simon, said: “The Halloween Lantern Carnival is a hugely popular event in our cultural calendar.

“Thousands head to Sefton Park every year to take in the stunning displays which members of the community have spent hours carefully crafting, giving the park a suitably eerie glow! I’m sure we’re in for another spooky treat this year.”

DSC_0024Liverpool’s Lantern Company is now in its 11th year, and has earned an excellent reputation for creating stunning works of art that not only mesmerise onlookers, but are of outstanding artistic quality. Its work with the community and an artist-led ethos is at the heart of the company.

This year will see the company’s first commission abroad, when a team of artists will produce five brand-new puppets for the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation, when a new night-time parade will be watched by up to 100,000 people. Over the coming months, the Lantern Company will also be producing major events in Liverpool and for Chester Zoo’s Christmas celebrations, as well as other events around the UK.
