“Time gentlemen please”… pubs have less than two weeks to secure a spot in a special brochure for 2008.

Dozens of licensees have already signed up for the programme, which is being produced by the Liverpool Culture Company as part of ‘Around the City in 80 Pubs’ – a celebration of the city’s unique pub culture.

The publication will highlight the individual qualities that make each Liverpool drinking house unique; whether that’s amazing architectural features, a buzzing live music scene, or simply an outstanding selection of beer. Organisers are keen to ensure a wide geographical spread for the project, so applications are encouraged from suburban pubs as well as city centre venues.

The deadline for pubs to submit their details for the brochure is April 14. Thousands of copies of the finished product will be distributed across the city in early May, kick-starting a summer of activity which will culminate in September 2008 with a two-week festival, coinciding with the CAMRA Real Ale Festival and Heritage Open Days.

Eileen Wilshaw, Heritage and Historic Environment Manager at the Liverpool Culture Company, said: “Liverpool is blessed with an amazingly vibrant pub scene, which makes an important contribution to the city’s cultural life. Around the City in 80 Pubs is all about showcasing the things that make Liverpool pubs so special, including architecture, traditions, music, games, food and drink.

“We’ve received a great response to the project so far, but we really want as many pubs as possible to get involved, including those from outside the city centre who might not normally get a chance to promote themselves more widely.”

To get involved, pubs just need to fill in a simple application form, detailing what makes their pub distinctive and highlighting any interesting facts, such as stories about famous visitors. Forms are available from or by calling Ian Jukes on (0151) 233 8133.
