Described by 2010 judge, Sir Norman Rosenthal, as “the Oscars of the painting world”, previous winners of the John Moores are amongst some of the most influential British artists from the last 50 years. Including the likes of Jack Smith, Richard Hamilton, Mary Martin, David Hockney and Peter Doig, the latest to join this elite list was Keith Coventry who won first prize in 2010.
In 2011, Sir Peter Blake became the first patron of the John Moores Painting Prize. Sir Peter won the Junior Prize in 1961 with Self Portrait with Badges, and has described the achievement as the proudest of his career.
The five prize winners from the John Moores Painting Prize China 2012 will also be on display.
