Franny Conlin’s acclaimed play Wild Flowers returns to Liverpool

After a critically acclaimed run last May at the Unity Theatre, Franny Conlin’s gritty, hard-hitting yet honest drama Wild Flowers is returning to the Epstein Theatre this March.

Set at the time of the docker’s strike of the mid 90’s, a time when work and family life were one and the same.

James, the younger of two brothers, scabs the dockers strike to forge his own path in life. However, his naivety lands him in the clutches of the wrong crowd and onto a dangerous path.  Wild Flowers explores the ructions caused within the Lavelle family as a result of the tormented brother’s actions. With an original folk-rock score Conlin’s personal and honest drama is a poignant reminder of Liverpool’s history and its very own identity, a place were there is always a laugh to be had, especially in times of hardship and adversity.

Featuring original and uplifting songs such as You Mersey River, Docker’s Umbrella, Bootle Skies and Wildflowers on The Dockland, this is a must see show.

About Franny Conlin

Born in Liverpool in 1944 and raised in the city that he loves as a good catholic scouser Francis ‘Franny’ Conlin has spent the majority of his working life as a regular ‘Boy from the Blackstuff’. Throughout that time Franny has seen and shared in the highs and lows of Liverpool life and it was as a result of a personal family tragedy that inspired him to take up writing in 2009. Wild Flowers, one of five factual based stories, is the production closest to his heart with a number of the show’s knockout songs adapted from poems written about his own families lives.
