It has been announced that the popular UEFA football exhibition Only a Game? is extending its run at World Museum Liverpool by over a month.
Now on display until 26 April 2009, the exhibition which explores Europe’s love affair with the beautiful game, features a selection of prestigious artefacts, trophies and memorabilia from over the last 50 years.
Also, the film ‘On the Edge of Passion’ will have three special screenings during half-term week in the Treasure House Theatre at World Museum Liverpool. Showing on Monday 16, Tuesday 17 and Thursday 19 February, the 52 minute film will begin at 11:00 am on all three days, and free tickets can be obtained from the welcome desk.
Visitors to the exhibition have so far witnessed a very rare occasion when all four of UEFA’s most prestigious trophies have been on show, featured alongside an array of objects and ephemera from the National Football Museum in Preston.
To celebrate the extension, World Museum Liverpool has teamed up with the Capital of Culture’s Cities on the Edge programme to provide free screenings of the fly-on-the-wall film On the Edge of Passion in conjunction with Only a Game?
After a successful premier screening in December at FACT, the film by French company Comic Strip Productions follows football fans from Liverpool, Marseilles and Istanbul; cities known and renowned across Europe for their dedication to their football teams.
Revealing the intensity of passion from the fans of clubs including Liverpool, Everton, Olympique de Marseilles and Galatasaray, the film recognises the common identities between all football fans, and expresses what it is and means to be a fan.
“The film celebrates Liverpool’s football fandom and explores the city’s significant relationship with European football culture, a theme that is of great importance within the exhibition itself.”

UEFA’s Only a Game? exhibition opened in October 2008 in collaboration with Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), National Football Museum and National Museums Liverpool.
Although the Champions League Trophy left the exhibition in December, visitors will still be able to see the UEFA Cup until 8 March, and the UEFA European Championship (EURO) Trophy, and UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup will remain on display until 26 April 2009.
