Dazzle Ships Immersive Audio Visual Installation by OMD – One Weekend Only

Unique dazzle ship installation – for one weekend only!

Last year when OMD played two sell-out gigs at the Museum of Liverpool, concert-goers were also treated to a special installation on the Edmund Gardner pilot ship. For one weekend only, we are offering visitors another opportunity to experience this, as curator Ben Whitaker explains:

“Join us on 3 and 4 October when we will take you on a tour deep inside the Edmund Gardner Dazzle Ship to experience a unique audio visual installation.

Called ‘Dazzle Ships (Parts I, IV, V & VI)’, the installation uses music, sound and lighting to immerse you into the world of a dazzle ship under attack from the enemy. It is an intense, visceral and challenging experience – and one that should not be missed.

These special dazzle tours will take place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October 2015. The tours are free and last for 30 minutes, starting with a fascinating look at dazzle ship history before experiencing the installation on board the ship.

The piece was created by influential electro pop band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark in collaboration with National Museums Liverpool, inspired by the dazzle artwork applied to the Edmund Gardner – ‘Induction Chromatique à Double Fréquence pour l’Edmund Gardner Ship Liverpool/Paris 2014′, created by Franco-Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez.

The tour is free but places are limited so advance booking is essential – telephone 0151 478 4545 to book your free place.

Please note the installation contains flashing lights and is very loud. The ship has uneven surfaces, steep stairways and low steps, meaning it is not fully accessible and unable to accommodate wheelchair users, pushchairs or prams. Please wear appropriate sensible footwear for a safe and enjoyable visit.

Tour times: Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October: 11am, 11.45am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 2.45pm, 3.30pm and 4.15pm

See the What’s on pages for further information.

Dazzle Ship is a co-commission by 1418 NOW WW1 Centenary Art Commission, Liverpool Biennial and Tate Liverpool, in partnership with the Merseyside Maritime Museum.
