Artist(s) to create art in the public realm for Salford Quays, The Quays Programming Group

North West Closes Thursday 9 June 2011 Paid (£20k-25k pro rata) Part time  Contact: Kathy Mc Ardle kathy.mcardle@thelowry.com

This is a very exciting time for cultural organisations in and around Salford Quays and Trafford Wharf. Salford Quays is a historic site in Salford, Greater Manchester, England which has undergone huge transformation following the development of MediaCityUK, and which is also home to a number of cultural venues, including The Lowry and Imperial War Museum North.

With the development of MediaCityUK, as well as enhanced transport links and connectivity, the area promises to become an even more accessible, dynamic and engaging place to visit. We are also developing a new arts and cultural programme which will emerge from what is distinctive and special about The Quays, but will also put it on the map as a global cultural and digital site.

We are looking for an artist or artists collective to work with us collaboratively to develop a commission which will take place in the public realm around The Quays during the Winter of 2011. We want to work with a creative individual or team who will create something (an event, an installation, an interaction, a project, a series of interventions) in the public (and possibly the digital realm) which will inspire, excite and engage people who experience it.

This work will be managed and supported by The Quays Programming Group, a partnership made up of curators, producers and event organisers from the various visitor attractions located in and around Salford Quays and Trafford Wharf.  This is our first collaborative commission for work in the public realm and we want to find some great ideas and practice. We are interested in hearing from artists who are breaking the mould and doing things differently.

The budget available for the development and making of the work is in the region of £65,000. This commission is funded by Arts Council England and Salford City Council

To obtain a copy of the brief for the work, please email Kathy Mc Ardle, The Quays Arts and Cultural Development Manager, at Kathy.mcardle@thelowry.com

Closing date for expressions of interest: Thursday 9th June.
