Artinliverpool Meets New Culture Secretary

After Gordon Brown’s latest cabinet reshuffle the post of Culture Secretary stays in the North West. Taking over from James Purnell, Andy Burnham was born in Liverpool, he moved to Newton-le-Willows as a youngster and is now MP for Leigh.
He’s only been in post 2 days so it occurred to me I’d be one the first people to interview him since his promotion. I was hoping to record a short interview to go on our next podcast but, as is often the case, things overran and he had very little time for interviews after his tour of the new Museum of Liverpool site before heading to Anfield for the Liverpool match (he’s actually an Evertonian so some may question his taste).

He seems like a very friendly, approachable guy and is genuinely delighted to be Culture Secretary while Liverpool is Capital of Culture, he could hardly stop smiling.

Meanwhile the building of the new Museum of Liverpool is taking shape. We’ll have to wait a long time for it to be fully open (2010!) but I think it will look fantastic seemingly floating on the river between the Three Graces and Albert Dock
