Artichoke Lumiere event in Durham

Looks like the Artichoke (the people who did La Princess Spider) ‘Lumiere’ event in Durham was rather good, shame we missed it.

The Lumiere festival of light has been and gone. It illuminated Durham for four nights only, but in those four nights an estimated 75,000 people flocked to Durham (the city itself only houses 35,000 people!) to see the installations and performances. Durham’s restaurants and cafes, trains and buses, and every available parking space were taken by festival goers. Particular highlights were new commission Crown of Light by Ross Ashton at the Cathedral, and Power Plant at the Botanic Garden.

The result of this success is that Artichoke have been invited back to make the festival a biennial event, so we’ll be back in 2011. In the meantime, you can take a look at photos of the event on the website.
