Art For Macmillan’s October exhibition concluded on the 24 October with an evening of poetry featuring acclaimed local poets Steve Beattie and Phil McNulty who very kindly promoted and hosted the show to help raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Fringe Poet Phil stated that he was taken aback by the sheer quality of the performances from the open mic entrants and that the whole event benefitted from a really receptive audience. In all eighteen poets read their work and Art For Macmillan is extremely grateful for the efforts put in by all who participated.
The Macmillan Gallery, located at 2 Tulketh Street next to Caffe Nero will continue to exhibit art, sculpture, photography and craft by local practitioners with additional works included for the Christmas season. Most notably among these are paintings by well known Liverpudlian artists, James Cosgrove and Brian Beattie whose solo exhibition launches at The Liverpool Academy of Arts, Seel Street on Monday 11 November.

Art For Macmillan’s demonstrations in Southport Market on Tuesdays and Saturdays will also continue and there will be water colour painting lessons to raise funds for the provision of care for cancer sufferers given by Irene Wilson in the market on Tuesdays. The lessons take place from 11.00 – 13.00 and from 14.00 – 16.00 and cost £7: participants are advised to bring their own materials to work with.
Chair of Arts at Macmillan, Anton Dolders and all local artists applying their skills and talents to raise funds for Macmillan would like to express gratitude to the market’s management for providing so many opportunities to do so and also to property owners Tustin Developments for permitting use of their premises as a centre for our charity art events. It is never easy to find property owners who are willing to donate a property for occupation by artists even when they are raising money for a great cause. Anton Dolders suggests that considering the range of cards and prints available in the Macmillan Gallery, customers will not fail to see something which meets their Christmas gift requirements and art makes great Christmas presents.
