ARK SCULPTURE EXHIBITION ANNOUNCES MORE LINE UP DETAILS

ARK is a modern and contemporary sculpture exhibition of international importance. This free to enter exhibition will take up residence at Chester Cathedral between 7 July and 15 October 2017.
ARK will feature 90 remarkable works by over 50 renowned artists. The 3D works of art will be travelling from Italy, Belgium, Iceland and the Republic of Ireland and will take two weeks to install in the cathedral, under the watchful eye of curators, Gallery Pangolin.
Made from materials as diverse as bronze, sterling silver, concrete, marble, wood, aluminium, Kilkenny Limestone, stainless steel, granite, copper, painted steel, leaves, resin, acrylic, tin, nickel silver and hair, the smallest exhibit will measure just 5cm. This will be carefully placed by hand under the protection of a glass case, whilst at the other end of the scale a 14 tonne work of art will require the attentions of a specialist team with lifting gear. Yet another 11.6m long exhibit will invite visitors to climb inside.
Vice Dean and Canon Chancellor, Jane Brooke says “It is with great enthusiasm that we will be welcoming brand new commissions from several artists especially for ARK, including a much anticipated sculpture by Turner Prize nominee David Mach RA, whose installation at the cathedral in 2016 caused so much excitement.”
The largest free to enter modern sculpture exhibition to be held in the North West of England, ARK will feature works by sculptors including Damien Hirst, Antony Gormley, Lynn Chadwick, Barbara Hepworth, Sarah Lucas, David Mach, Kenneth Armitage, Elisabeth Frink, Eduardo Paolozzi and Peter Randall-Page, amongst others. Valued in the tens of millions of pounds, this exhibition will use the magnificent interior of the cathedral building as well as the ancient spaces surrounding it as the backdrop to these extraordinary works of art.
