Held at Aphrohead Books and Coffee shop on Hoghton Street, a feast of work will be on view daily from June the 23rd until the 11th of July, with an evening of performance-based arts on Wednesday the 1st of July from 5 – 7pm.

The exhibition embraces the fact that Southport is home to a surprising number of professional, graduate and community based art practitioners working in various disciplines. The list of creative skills within the group is wide-ranging, and includes painters, textile artists, filmmakers, graphic designers, photographers, printmakers, sculptors, jewellers, musicians, poets and performance-based artists.

The SCA was recently founded by Norrie Beswick-Calvert of Kaleidoscope Arts. In the running of their community arts programmes, the team recognised a need for Southport based artists, makers, performers and designers to be supported and networked as a creative force.

The aim of the group is to galvanise talents and move the organisation forward in order to provide a regular showcase of works via frequent exhibitions in the town and opportunities for the community to engage in workshops and performance-based events. High on the wish list for the future is a permanent space for the organisation that would enable and facilitate Southport’s creative communities.

Calls of interest are welcomed. If you are you an artist/designer/maker/performer wanting to join the network and would like to exhibit and gain mutual support, or are a person wanting to join in with creative workshops, please get in touch.

The group are particularly interested in hearing from local businesses that may be able to offer space for future exhibitions and PR events….. And of course all are welcome to view the exhibition, which is hosted by Aphrohead Books and Coffee Shop, one of Southport’s up and coming young businesses – their food & coffee is superb and the online and in house book service rivals the major players on the internet! Check it out!
