Analogue or Online, Community Spirit is Alive

Liverpool SOUP has traditionally hosted ‘in person’ events which bring people together to learn about the inspiring projects going on right on their doorsteps and how to support them. Over their last three events they’ve crowdfunded over £1,800 which has been awarded to a variety of projects from a community film club to a beekeeping start-up. But given that they can’t guarantee the date of their next event they’re taking it online…

The applications for Liverpool SOUP Online opened last weekend and welcome community groups and individuals from across the Liverpool City Region to apply for the opportunity to be awarded £750 to further the impact of any projects or ideas which are either currently in progress or able to start in the near future. Unlike their previous events 6 projects will be selected to win £250 and the project which receives the most votes will be awarded an additional £500, walking away with £750 in total!

Each of the 6 selected projects will also work with Hannah Forbes, a member of the Liverpool SOUP Committee and Founder of The Funding Crowd, to set up a crowd funding page meaning that during the online event people can donate directly to the projects if they want to support them above and beyond giving them their vote.

The project which has received the most votes will be announced Thursday 7th May and in the week or so running up to the 7th Liverpool SOUP will be sharing details, including short videos, from the 6 selected projects across their Facebook and Twitter accounts. You’ll be able to ask questions and mull over the different projects before voting for the one which most resonates with you. Stepping away from the usual format of Liverpool SOUP the voting will be open to all, regardless of whether you’ve made a cash donation or not. Liverpool SOUP Online is all about bringing people together and spreading the word about the inspiring projects at play across the Liverpool City Region despite the challenges and restrictions that people are adapting to at the moment.

Do you have an project or idea which you think fits the bill? Submit your application by 17th April. Liverpool SOUP are looking for a variety of ideas:

  • Established groups or individuals
  • Analogue or online
  • Creative or considered critical

Whether you need cash to add something extra to the care packages you’re distributing to give a bit of cheer for those that receive them or to create crafting packs which help parents get creative with their children, cash to treat the volunteers who’ve been shopping for their neighbors in isolation to a roast dinner hamper or ingredients so a group of you can bake cakes for your local hospital, Liverpool SOUP want to hear from you.

Liverpool SOUP Online is set to create a well-deserved buzz around the amazing work being done in our communities so don’t forget to sign up to Liverpool SOUP’s mailing list to be first to know which 6 projects have been selected and get details on how to vote.
