Saturday 26 March, 7.30pm
RNCM Concert Hall

Fast becoming known for its inventive, individual and dynamic programming, Manchester Camerata’s dynamic 2010/11 concert series continues with a performance of music by the three Viennese composers responsible for revolutionising the musical landscape of the twentieth century.

Webern                                 5 Movements Op.5
Berg arr. Tarkmann           Violin Concerto
Schoenberg                         Verklärte Nacht

Douglas Boyd  conductor
Gordan Nikolitch  violin
Netia Jones  visual designer

Music from the Second Viennese School. Webern’s 5 Movements offers drama, contrasted by Berg’s profoundly moving Violin Concerto. Adding something special to your experience, Schoenberg’s romantic string work Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) will be accompanied by imaginative visuals which react to the music in real-time courtesy of artist Netia Jones. The work tells the story of a couple walking in a wood in winter; the woman confesses to the man that she is pregnant, but by another lover. The forest fills with transfiguring moonlight, and the man replies that the strength of their love will make the child their own.
