An opportunity has arisen to work on marketing and communications across the Liverpool and Lancashire portfolios through a range of traditional and digital channels. The role offers the right candidate a rare mix of elements – to work across a range of popular visitor destinations with a fascinating mix of heritage, landscape and nature, working within a wider support structure of a large organisation and marketing departments, whilst promoting a charitable cause where you can see the direct impact of your work locally. For a well organised and ambitious individual the role offers tremendous variety and great potential.
The successful candidate will split their working time across the portfolios, being based at Speke Hall three days a week and Rufford Old Hall two days a week, with some visits to Formby and the Hardmans’ House required. Further details can be discussed at interview.
What it’s like to work here
The Liverpool portfolio comprises historic buildings large and small: Speke Hall, The Hardmans’ House and the Beatles’ Childhood Homes. The Formby and Central Lancashire portfolio also includes a number of properties, but for the purpose of this role the focus will be on Rufford Old Hall with some supported required for Formby
Across all our places, we will create a positive shift in perception of the Trust and broaden our appeal to visitors through a great choice of inspirational, enjoyable and relevant experiences, leading to increased understanding and support for our work. By creating inspiring and relevant marketing and digital content for our differing audiences which help connect them to the places we look after, we will hope to inspire people to visit and to become supporters of the National Trust.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll work flexibly across both portfolios, with the majority of your time spent at Speke Hall and Rufford Old Hall. You’ll deliver the Marketing and Communications plans for both portfolios to achieve their business objectives and connect people with the work of the Trust as a conservation charity. You’ll work with key property leads and the consultancy to promote visits, programming, volunteering and participation, fundraising and commercial operations, to name a few. You’ll produce great content and share key stories across a range of channels, identifying opportunities to link and cross-promote the different properties in the two portfolios. The role will suit a creative, driven individual with great planning and prioritisation skills, experience in a PR or marketing environment and an interest in history, nature and landscape.
Who we’re looking for
You will have a passion for communications, a preparedness to try new things and an aptitude for sharing key messages through creative and eye-catching marketing and communication channels. It’s a busy and fast-paced environment so you’ll need to be extremely well organised and flexible, able to think on your feet and prioritise your work. You’ll be working from two different main locations, with some time spent at other properties in the portfolios, and with a wide range of people and places.
Superb written English, an eye for detail, first rate planning and an ability to work to deadlines are essential. Digital skills, acting as a brand ambassador, leading a professional calm approach to handling customer queries, complaints or contentious issues, working with content management systems and social media platforms are vital. Also, you’ll have an enthusiasm for the work of the National Trust and for all the amazing places that we look after for the benefit of people and nature.
You will have:
- Practical experience in a marketing role or in some aspects of marketing communications
- Experience of implementing marketing and communications plans
- Knowledge of relevant legislation: marketing codes, data protection, copyright and model release
- Proven track record in creating, using and editing content in different channels (web, social media, PR, email)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to spot potential risks to reputation and escalate them accordingly
- Ability to spot engaging stories, and develop content for them.
- Build relationships with a range of colleagues to help you to gather content and develop stories
- Well organised and able to manage multiple priorities and varying pressures to meet measurable targets and deadlines
- Strong understanding of the importance of online presence and ways to promote visits to our website and social media channels
