Vacancy Details
The School of Arts & Media is one of the leading centres in the North West for practice-based education in the creative disciplines. We offer research-informed specialist programmes which benefit from close relationships with the creative industries. Our strengths include interdisciplinary and international projects.

From a current base of around 4,500 students, the School provides a diverse range of contemporary and challenging programmes including art, design, digital and broadcast media with strong professional, commercial and community links. These programmes offer a challenging and contemporary curriculum to a wide range of students and enjoy excellent levels of student achievement and competition success. We are expanding numbers and developing our city campus with a total investment of £136m over the next two years. This includes New Adelphi, a specialist art building with professional workshops, computer suites and photography studios as well as professional theatre, dance and music facilities. New Adelphi is due to open in August 2016 and BA (Hons) Design will be based there.

The School’s activities are organised into seven Directorates which include: Art and Design, Digital Media, Broadcast Media, Music and Dance, Journalism, Performance, English, Politics and Contemporary History. BA (Hons) Design sits within the Art and Design Directorate alongside other disciplines such as Interior Design, Fashion Design, Fashion Styling and Image Making, Photography and Visual Arts. Students benefit from expert tutors who are all experienced professionals, many of whom remain active in the fields in which they teach, continuing to develop and grow links with industry.

This post will strengthen the delivery of design theory and design practice to students enrolled on creative Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes within the Art & Design Directorate of the School. This role requires an established background in engaging students in all aspects of creative practice. The post holder must be able to demonstrate a broad range of traditional 3D design and making skills ideally combined with skills in rapid prototyping methods, and should also be familiar with relevant industry standard software associated with the subject area.

The post holder will demonstrate a strong conceptual and practical understanding of critical and reflective methodologies and must be able to employ a range of creative teaching methodologies in delivering their knowledge in both individual and group contexts. The role will involve the responsibility of tasks at programme and module level and in areas of academic management, assessment of work, and the supervision of student’s pastoral care and PDP development.

The post holder will be involved in the development of delivering Design Thinking and Human Centred Design content, as an increasingly important part of the strategic aims of the School is seeking to move towards a cross-disciplinary portfolio of creative activity.

Please note the vacancy is closing at 11:59pm on the date specified.
