Windermere Jetty Collections Access and Exhibitions Officer, Lakeland Arts

Deadline: Monday 28 September 2015. Paid, Full time.

Location: Windermere Jetty from opening. Until then Kendal and other Lakeland Arts sites.
Salary: £25,000

Do you want to join our team to open up access to one of the most significant museum collections of boats and associated objects in the world? Windermere Jetty has a fascinating and historically significant collection of steam, motor, rowing, sailing and other boats, all associated with Windermere in the Lake District. Eleven of the boats are listed by National Historic Ships as nationally pre-eminent.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic person to lead on preparing the boat collection and associated objects for display in the purpose built new museum, due to open in 2017. Once the Museum is open you will lead the interpretation, care and development of the collection, including creating a regular programme of exhibitions.

This is a ‘hands on’ post working on the nationally important collection of boats. You will possess strong curatorial skills in relation to maritime and social history collections. You will be able to deliver to the highest standards to a set timetable. You will have a passion for collections and understand the importance of developing interpretation for a broad range of audiences and caring for the collection for future generations.

This post is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
