Culturally framed performance is rapidly becoming a critical lens through which to examine human behaviour – particularly at the human-technology and human-environmental interfaces. With wider social and cultural trends in which performance plays a central role, the demand for research is set to grow, especially through inter-disciplinary collaboration across health, technology, activism and urban living. The UAF in Performance and Culture may contribute to this demand by specialising in any of the following areas: cultural value, cities of culture, cultural industries/economies, digital cultures, applied performance, cultural activism, performance anthropology, ethnography and cross cultural performance practice.

You will develop a research profile that will contribute to the University’s ambition to excel at REF2020, with a sustained record of internationally excellent (and some world-leading) publications and a strong record of presentations at international conferences. Acting as catalyst for collaboration across the Faculty and the University, in partnership with your mentor you will organise seminars with international speakers, network at conferences and build local collaborations. You will also co-supervise PhDs, contribute to the current undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and participate in the development of future specialist postgraduate provision. You would also be expected to submit grant applications for a personal fellowship (e.g. AHRC, ERC) and small individual or networking research grants as well as work with colleagues across the School to submit larger grants.

You will have significant proven research experience within a field of Performance and Culture, the ability to teach at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate level, as well as a clear and compelling vision for personal academic development.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

As part of the application process you will be required to upload the following documents:
1.    A CV;
2.    A list of publications;
3.    A statement detailing your research and academic plan (no more than 2 sides of A4).  As part of the selection process, account will be taken in relation to your research and academic plan, in particular the impact of this and the strategic fit to the University.
