GLL is looking for a Lead Theatre Technician based at The Sands Centre in Carlisle, Cumbria to provide high-quality technical support for all performances at this professional arts venue. The Sands Centre Arts and Events department caters to over 750,000 patrons a year with a wide variety of events and shows, from comedians to West End Productions, comedy to classical. With over 200 events a year this a busy and exciting department to work for, working alongside some of the biggest names in arts and entertainment.

An experienced theatre technician, you’ll be able to provide technical support for the majority of shifts at the theatre which include a mix of evenings, weekends and daytime shifts – the shifts will change dependent on the performances that are happening. You’ll take pride in the venue operating to your exacting high standards which not only include health and safety but also the experience of the performers, crew and visitors/audience. Your experience will show that you’re confident supporting a range of performances/uses and will be able to think on your feet with regards to providing a safe working environment throughout get-ins, rigging, sound checks, get-outs and de-rigs.

It goes without saying that you’ll have excellent communication skills as you’ll liaise with everyone from the front of house at The Sands Centre in Carlisle, to visiting company staff, performers, multi-media, lighting and sound companies – all to ensure seamless and safe performances. You’re likely to have a background working for another theatre or performing arts / concert venue and will have the necessary Health & Safety qualifications/knowledge. You’ll also need experience of sound and lighting design and operation. Confident, approachable and with the ability to work alone and be a good team player, you’ll have experience of supervising others and communicating with non-theatre professionals without ‘tech speak’ and theatre jargon. You’ll need a good head for heights and ideally have experience of special FX, strobe FX, pyrotechnics and firearms.
