JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose of the Job
To assist the Organics Conservator with the care and conservation of organic objects selected for display in the new Ancient Egypt gallery in World Museum
To assist with the delivery of display and storage improvements for these collections.
Main Activities
Reporting to the Senior Organics Conservator, you will:
- Assess the condition of selected objects and contribute to formulating treatments.
- Undertake the cleaning, consolidation, repair and restoration of selected ancient Egyptian organic objects as agreed with the Senior Organics Conservator.
- Record condition details, the results of investigative work and treatments, including record photography. Maintain such documentation on the NML database (Mimsy XG) and in the object history files.
- Monitor and advise on environmental conditions, display and storage requirements as required.
- Liaise over collections movement, display and storage with Curators, Estates, Conservation and Project Team colleagues.
- Contribute to installation planning.
- Make the Egyptian collections accessible through photography, interpretation and web resources. Liaise with and provide information to colleagues in Marketing and Communications for publicity and press.
- Develop knowledge of the historical, technological and cultural importance of the collections in your care.
- Contribute to effective and efficient use of resources.
- Undertake relevant administrative duties associated with the movement of objects, materials, structures and equipment, and the ordering of supplies.
