Project Archivist, Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art

Project Archivist

16 months fixed term post

£23,000 pro rata (2 days a week, 0.4 FTE)

In 2016 Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art (CFCCA) celebrates its 30 year anniversary, a landmark occasion for the organisation to look back and celebrate its heritage. In recognition of its special history, CFCCA has received £37,400 from the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for a project to make accessible the CFCCA archive and library, which includes funding for a fixed-term Project Archivist.

CFCCA has developed a rich archive of material documenting the history of the organisation to include ephemera, leaflets, newspaper cuttings and photographs as well as a specialist collection of rare journals, catalogues and publications documenting the history of Chinese contemporary art. Working closely with the CFCCA Director, Research Curator and volunteers, the Project Archivist will oversee a project to catalogue this collection, creating online access and developing initiatives to increase its reach to a wide and diverse audience.

The ideal candidate will bring their excellent knowledge and experience of best practice in archival storage and cataloguing to the team, to methodically identify, record and preserve a resource of approximately 3,000 individual items. A passion for increasing opportunities for access through digitisation is essential. The role requires first-rate project management, database and computer literacy expertise.

CFCCA is the leading authority on Chinese contemporary art in the UK. The organisation has a diverse and rich 30 year history of supporting both national and international audiences and also local communities to understand more about Chinese contemporary art, culture and society. We create meaningful encounters between artists and audiences through a lively public programme of exhibitions, artist residencies, engagement projects and events both on site and in partnership with other cultural institutions.

Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art is an Equal Opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
