In this fixed term (12 months) role you’ll produce inspirational opportunities for participation through workshops, events, talks and other activities. Engaging with a range of identified audiences, including families, young people and adults, you’ll work collaboratively with colleagues across this programme and will work with our collections, building and landscape to inform and inspire. You’ll have responsibility for ensuring this programme is purposeful, and ensure it meets Lakeland Arts’ audience development plan.

Key responsibilities

Community participation programme

  • Ensure Lakeland Arts venues enjoyable and memorable place for identified community groups to visit
  • Produce (devise, deliver, develop and manage) community participation projects at Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Blackwell, The Arts & Crafts House, and The Museum of Lakeland Life & Industry
  • Plan, coordinate, manage and produce small to medium scale community programmes and projects, with the Lakeland Arts team, that connects local priorities with creative engagement
  • Lead on the evaluation and monitoring and development of our successful Dementia programme in line with the Kendal Town Dementia Hub priorities
  • Contribute to Lakeland Arts  meetings to discuss, plan and integrate collections and ideas with the participation programme alongside their promotion and funding


Research, development and networking

  • Continue to research and develop the most innovative and purposeful ways of engaging with Lakeland Arts local community groups and seek best ways to deliver projects
  • Advocate and share Lakeland Arts activity within the wider museum sector (e.g. case studies for GEM, STEM agenda, AIM etc.)
  • Contribute to writing fundraising bids and stakeholder reports to the Arts Council, trusts, foundations and private individuals as relevant
  • Contribute to Lakeland Art’s stakeholder events
  • Take responsibility for own personal and professional development
  • Manage and oversee volunteers, creative practitioners and artists
