The Dukes, Lancashire Museums Service and the Regional Heritage Centre at Lancaster University are seeking an experienced Project Coordinator to lead on the delivery of a new initiative this autumn, Port Stories, supported by Heritage Lottery Fund.

The project coordinator will lead on the delivery of the project; coordinating all activities in liaison with museums, archive, HE and other partners; supporting volunteers and ensuring engagement in the project; supporting the creative and digital teams and the event partner, First Fridays. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator with proven ability to manage projects with multiple different elements to a deadline and on budget.

The aim of the Port Stories project, is to interpret Lancaster’s heritage as a port and bring it to life for the current generation of Lancastrians through dramatic performance and locative audio that will form part of the monthly First Fridays festival in October, November and December this year. Alongside professional historians, the project will recruit ten community historians, some from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds, to provide archival research and supporting interpretation. Historic stories of those who made their livelihood connected to Lancaster’s maritime past will be contrasted with accounts of more recent arrivals through digital story-telling and oral history recording.
