Granby Workshop is a start-up business based in Toxteth, making experimental products for the home. We are seeking a passionate and capable individual to administer the business and work with us in a formative role during its early development. The Operations Manager role is primarily focused around fulfilling orders and customer relations, but has the scope to expand in the future according to the applicant’s capability, skills and interest.

Granby Workshop is a new business making experimental products for homes. Manufacturing homeware on Granby St, in south Liverpool, the business has grown out of the community-led rebuilding of the Granby Four Streets neighbourhood following years of dereliction. The project was launched through the Turner Prize by design collective Assemble in 2015, following a nomination for their work refurbishing terraces with the Granby Four Streets CLT.

The workshop aims to create sustainable employment and play an active part in the local neighbourhood. Facilities created by the commercial production business will be able to support after-school kids activities and a local network of makers, artists and designers.
The majority of product sales are made directly to customers online through our website at www.granbyworkshop.co.uk. We also work on special commissions and exhibitions around the UK and beyond. The workshop is focused on exploring experimental ceramic processes that invite chance and improvisation so that every product is unique. All products are handmade by local makers at the workshop.

The Operations Manager is a new role, developed to focus specifically on the administration and fulfillment of orders, managing stock and communicating with customers. We are looking for someone with a systematic and methodical approach to practical tasks – for example, in packaging and sending out products to customers – an individual who has good I.T Skills, social media fluency, and strong communication skills (both verbally and written). You will be responsible for administrative responsibilities including co-ordination of workshop rotas, basic book-keeping, supporting fundraising and managing the central email account. You will also be a spokesperson for the project and expected to give short tours of the workshop or present an overview if required.

You will be working closely with Assemble to ensure the business continues to grow into a sustainable organization and is a positive contributor to the neighbourhood and community life around Toxteth. The Operations Manager’s role is also to work side-by-side with Makers in the workshop to ensure stock is maintained and production staff are organized. There is only a small core team working regularly at the workshop, so as a fundamental part of that you will be key in helping us develop an open, supportive and enjoyable working culture for the business.

• £20,000 – 25,000 per annum depending on experience. (Including NI contributions)

• The standard working hours are Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.

• Granby Workshop employees are entitled to 28 days of paid annual leave, such entitlement accruing on a pro rata basis, including Bank and Public Holidays. Additional benefits include access to equipment in the workshop and other organisational resources.
