National Trust Cheshire: Quarry Bank Mill: Volunteering & Community Involvement Manager

Quarry Bank Mill: Volunteering & Community Involvement Manager

From room guides to gardeners, sales assistants to computer experts, volunteers are the lifeblood of Quarry Bank Mill and collectively they give around ten thousand hours of their time each year. Without the dedication of our volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to care for this special place or offer our visitors such unforgettable experiences. Their hard work isn’t something that we take for granted.

The role also involves working with our property & project teams, and external partners, to lead on our community engagement ambitions, specifically in the communities of Styal, Wilmslow and Wythenshawe. We want these communities to see Quarry Bank as theirs, developing mutual benefits and connections, for example through learning and employment opportunities, and increasing access and participation with property activities.

What’s like to work here

This former cotton mill was built in 1784 and is one of Britain’s greatest industrial heritage sites. The busy estate hosts many schools programmes and events, which help bring Quarry Bank’s fascinating story to life. New areas of the estate will shortly open to the public, creating additional project-based roles. This is an exciting opportunity to work in fast growing location and the team pride themselves on being dynamic, highly motivated and passionate people.

What you’ll be doing

The role involves: planning and development of volunteering; supporting our volunteer managers and 400 volunteers; developing and implementing our community involvement strategy and partnerships with external organisations; administering our volunteer systems and processes; applying insight and evaluating the quality of our volunteering and community involvement offer; and participating in the financial planning process.

We are currently implementing a major three-year Heritage Lottery funded project on site, and you will also be involved in “People” workstream. You will also be a key part of the property’s leadership team, and will act as a duty manager, so you will play a full and active role within the operation of the visitor attraction and wider property activities.
