Call for Expression of Interest for artists, musicians, makers, crafters and workshop facilitators as part of a programme of events occurring for young people in the Lakes and Dales.

Deco Publique & Great Place: Lakes and Dales are contracting and commissioning artists of all disciplines to be part of a programme of events taking place in three locations in the South Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales from February to April 2020. For three consecutive weeks a curated programme from Music and Making to Design and Debating will emerge in Kendal, Settle and Bentham – rural locales with distinctive identities and communities.

The programme will work to enliven small towns, making these localities attractive propositions for young people.

The activities/commissions we are looking to programme may include skilled making and art workshops providing taster sessions for people who may not usually have access to this kind of activity, talks by young creatives and entrepreneurs, and live performances in dance, theatre, spoken word and music. The artworks/workshops/performances/gigs should engage and support young people to become creatively empowered in their own spaces.

We are looking for artists and speakers with an understanding of the geographical limitations of rural locations, and how these can be turned into assets for creative entrepreneurs and makers. Ideally commissioned artists will live and work, have grown up in or moved to, similar rural demographics and locations, and can highlight the benefits these locations give to young people.

  • Adaptable to various indoor locations from unused gallery spaces to an auction mart
  • Enthusiasm and energy
  • Willingness to travel to the South Lakes and Yorkshire Dales
  • Passion for working with young people
  • Understanding of growing up in a rural location and running a creative business/art practice there
  • Young artists (ideally 25 and under) making a business from their artform

Opportunities for commissions, activities, delivery contracts from £350-£2000.

Commission totals inclusive of VAT, materials, installation costs, travel, accommodation expenses.
