Explainer Developer, Science Museum Group

Do you have experience of operating live working machinery? Are you a strong communicator, with an ability to train and support colleagues?

The Science Museum Group is here to inspire futures. We engage diverse audiences through the delivery of high quality, life-enhancing, learning experiences that are memorable and open to all.

Our Explainers at the Science and Industry Museum are uniquely placed to educate and inform visitors about how ideas can change the world, from the Industrial Revolution to today. They do this by delivering interactive Science shows, talks, demonstrations, workshops and events for schools, families and adults. To support our Explainer team, we are now looking for 2 full time Explainer Developers, to join us on a fixed-term basis for 12 months.

As an Explainer Developer, you will help evolve and improve the activities provided by the Explainer team, through specific job-focused coaching and training, whilst assisting in the successful running of informal learning shows and events. As Explainer Developer, you will provide guidance and support with demonstrating our historic working machinery, along with how to communicate these stories in engaging and interesting ways.

Joining us, you’ll have technical experience of operating live working machinery, along with a sound understanding of health and safety practices and regulations. As a member of our learning team, you’ll also be able to communicate effectively, and share knowledge, with an appreciation of different learning styles. You’ll be a confident communicator; comfortable presenting to large groups of people. Above all, you’ll be self-motivated, enthusiastic and a team player.

You will be offered excellent benefits, including 24 days annual leave in addition to bank holidays, a contributory pension scheme, an annual season ticket loan and numerous staff discounts whilst developing your career in a world class museum group.
