Manchester Jewish Museum opened in 1984 and is housed in a former synagogue on the edge of Manchester city centre.
We are a museum of Jewish stories – stories of journeys, communities and identities, past and present. Through our collections, synagogue and location on Cheetham Hill Road – “the most diverse street in the UK” – we are uniquely positioned to bring people together to share these and their own stories. Together, we use the past to build a more tolerant, culturally rich future.
Last year we were listed by ‘The Times’ as one of the 10 best small museums in the UK. This year we have become one of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisations.
With the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) we have started a £5million capital development project. A new Jewish museum will open in 2020 with a major new gallery, collection store, learning studio and visitor facilities, including a Jewish café.
We are now looking for a design agency to work with us to create a new brand identity.
Over the past 2 years we have conducted extensive consultation with our audiences, partners and stakeholders. Led by museum trustee, Susie Stubbs (Managing Director, Modern Designers), staff, trustees and volunteers have worked together to create a Brand Story and the following brand values:
Jewish: In the widest sense of the word, authentic, proud, confident and with integrity
Memorable: Brave, personal, thought-provoking and relevant – perhaps more relevant than ever
Inspirational: Educational, playful and entertaining
Welcoming: Reflecting the city we are proud to call home, an active part of a diverse local community, and of a city known for its multiculturalism and inclusivity
We have a strong brand vision. We now need to create a strong brand identity.
