We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic person to open up access to the historic boats and rich collection of associated objects at Windermere Jetty.
Windermere Jetty will be a world-class museum and is one of the most ambitious new heritage developments in the North. Construction started in November 2015 and it is due to open in 2017. The steam launches, motor-boats, rowing and sailing boats are all associated with Windermere in the Lake District and many of them were made by Windermere boat builders. Eleven of the boats are listed by National Historic Ships as nationally pre-eminent.
You will be an experienced curator with a passion for involving a broad range of people in museums and interpreting collections for a range of audiences. You will have an active interest in museums and history and knowledge of curatorial and interpretation best practice. You will be well organised and able to lead and be part of a dedicated team. You will have experience of working with maritime, social history or industrial collections.
You will join the Project Delivery Team and lead delivery of the main exhibition content and narrative and oversee interpretation of boats, collections and conservation activities at Windermere Jetty. You will develop a strong understanding of the collection and its significance and advise the Conservation Team. You will devise and deliver temporary exhibitions at Windermere Jetty at and after opening. You will contribute to the programme of activities, events and community involvement.
