About Light Up Lancaster
2016 will be the fourth year of Light Up Lancaster Festival. The event dates are Friday 4th and Saturday 5th November. Some artworks will be in situ/performed for just the Friday evening, and others will continue into the Saturday, alongside the annual fireworks spectacular.
About Confucius Institute
Lancaster University Confucius Institute teaches Chinese language, intercultural communication, calligraphy, painting and tai chi to students, staff, local communities. Our aims are to celebrate Chinese culture with local people, including Lancaster’s two Chinese associations, and support regional business, education and cultural engagement with China.
We are interested in hearing from artists from any cultural background but particularly those with an understanding of China, who may want to create new work OR re-site existing work. All proposals should be for work to take place in the city centre or close environs, and could be sited or roaming.
The work could, for example, be one larger installation, or could be a series of smaller installations across the city. Advice on available locations will be given. Projects should be sited outdoors and will need to be weatherproof. This project is for both evenings of the Festival.
All projects should engage with the theme of light, should be suitable for a family audience and should celebrate traditional or contemporary Chinese culture in some way.
Budget: £4,000 inclusive.
