 \nIn this drop-in workshop at World Museum Liverpool\, artist Layla Gibil
 iru invites families to make their own ‘Henna Hands’ designs on paper
 \, inspired by beautiful Henna patterns and plants.\nHenna is a plant dye 
 traditionally used across Arab countries. It is commonly used during Eid\,
  weddings and other celebrations through temporary body designs. Layla wou
 ld often go to community events as a child\, and now as an adult\, and usu
 ally see someone doing henna.\n\nFor Layla\, henna relates to her culture 
 and community. “My most loved memory of henna is in Yemen\, seeing my Gi
 da (Grandmother) and Gidu (Grandfather)\, walking around our house with br
 ight orange hair and my Gidu with a bright orange beard. My Gida always wo
 re her head scarf outside\, so it was only visible inside our home and som
 ething I always loved seeing.”\nLayla draws on her heritage to inspire 
 this workshop for families at World Museum Liverpool.\nThis workshop is pa
 rt of an afternoon of activities in partnership with World Museum Liverpo
 ol on Saturday 8 July.\nBiography\n\n\n\nLayla Gibiliru is a Yemeni and 
 English artist\, and Liverpudlian. As an artist she has created works suc
 h as “Invisible injustice”\, “The Absence of the Author”\, “Peop
 le”\, “Placenta of Life” and “Women”. She has showcased work as 
 part of two of BlackFest festivals and has exhibited in Gallery 445\, Blac
 kburn House and Camp and Furnace. \n\n\n\nAlongside her work as an artist
 \, Layla’s practice is embedded within local communities such as Liverp
 ool Outdoor Art Club and local scout groups. She is also the author and il
 lustrator of children’s book\, Tatty Ava\; a story that makes brushin
 g hair exciting and portrays the protagonist as a girl with beautiful curl
 y hair.\n\n\n\nLayla is currently working on a new selection of children
 ’s books with other authors\, illustrators and artists\, under the publi
 shing company\, Chamelifun\, a publishing company that celebrates educatio
 n fitting with each individual child\, through stories.\nThis event is par
 t of Liverpool Arab Arts Festival events hosted by World Museum Liverpool 
 on Saturday 8 July.\n\n\n\n\n
