SUMMARY:: Wirral Met College: Untethered Students
DESCRIPTION:UNTETHERED STUDENTS \n\n      AN ONLINE EXHIBITION.\n\nOnl
 ine Exhibition - WWW.UNTETHEREDEXHIBITION.COM\n\n19th March 2021\, – 23r
d May 2021\n\nWirral Met College Presents ‘Untethered’ a Level 5 Stude
nt Exhibition \n\nHome is where the Art is\, at least that’s the case fo
r this group of BA Fine Art students who have come together while remainin
g apart to bring their online UNTETHERED exhibition (www.untetheredexhibit
ion.com). Originally the event was to be held at Bloom Building’s Conven
ience Gallery in Birkenhead.\n\nUntethered features nine artists with an e
xperimental mixture of contemporary practices featuring\; painting\, sculp
ture\, drawing\, video\, and installation. It is a showcase of versatility
and up-and-coming talent. All the work on display has been produced while
working away from college\, giving viewers an insight into what it’s li
ke to be an artist practising in these disconnected days. The exhibition
aims to introduce new ways of seeing by taking on subjects of escapin
g patterns\, tranquil seascapes\, coloured sound\, memories of urban destr
uction\, and the human condition.\n\nThe group of nine local students are
studying at Wirral Met College to gain a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art.
This exhibition forms part of their professional development as artists an
d is a crucial part of the University of Chester assessments. It is a chan
ce not only for the students to develop their experience of putting on a g
roup show\, but it introduces new and emerging talent to a wider community
. The exhibition has been supported by donations from Cass Art\, Culture H
ustle\, and Finsa UK\, who have donated equipment for the students to disp
lay their work as well as prizes for a fundraising raffle.\n\nBA (Hons) Fi
ne Art Degree Course Leader Michelle Rowley said of the exhibition\, “Li
ke many art school students our level 5 group have endured the difficultie
s of making creative work at home without the usual college resources\, an
d yet they have risen to the challenge in producing their first public exh
ibition. We hope you will celebrate their achievement and resilience in th
ese uncertain times.”\n\nThe BA (Hons) Fine Art degree programme has run
at Wirral Met College now for twenty-five years\; the course offers an in
tensive period of study that proceeds from relatively directed projects to
greater independent learning. This takes place in studios\, workshops and
through a programme of lectures\, seminars and one to one tutorials.\n\nL
ast year the students from the course have taken part in a collaborative d
rawing project. Informed by the idea of collective capacity versus the ide
a of individual genius and the relationship between individual action and
the potential for diverse positions to exist in concert with each other. T
he Bio-Graphic project is currently on display at Brigham Young University
in Utah\, USA and will be exhibited in two other universities in the US b
efore returning to Wirral for its last exhibition.\n\nThe students invite
you to join them online in their web exhibition at www.untetheredexhibitio
n.com. Opening on Friday 19th March 2021 and running through until Sunday
 23rd May 2021. Featured artists\; Belinda Wong\, Judith Welham\, Kara Dobb
 s\, Jack Boutet\, Tracey Dean\, Les Weston\, Matthew Brown\, Stuart Noble
and the work of the late Geoff Woods (TBC).
